Mask your Aadhaar number before sharing

The phone probably ran out of memory. Lighter settings are now on for this tab, so try again — or split a big PDF into parts first.

How it works
Drop your Aadhaar PDF or a photo of the card, or take one with your phone's camera. The Aadhaar number is found automatically and its first 8 digits are covered with a black box. Check the box, move it or add another if needed, then press Download. The masked copy is saved with "-masked" added to the name. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account and there is no limit.
Why mask your Aadhaar
Hotels, landlords, gyms, SIM shops and many offices ask for an Aadhaar copy, and that copy often ends up in a WhatsApp chat, an email inbox or a pile of photocopies. Your full 12-digit number is the key to your identity; most of these places only need to see that you have an Aadhaar card and match the last four digits. UIDAI itself offers a masked Aadhaar that shows only the last four digits for exactly this reason. This tool gives you the same on any copy you already have.
Masked for real, not covered
On a photo, the digits under the box are replaced with black pixels — they are gone from the image. On a PDF, every page with a box is rebuilt as a picture with the box burned in, so the digits can't be selected, copied or uncovered by deleting a shape. Location data stored in phone photos is removed as well.
Photos, scans and downloaded PDFs
On a PDF with real text, the number is found by its digits. On a photo or a scanned page, a number reader looks for it. A clear, straight, well-lit photo works best. If the number isn't found — a blurry photo, a glare, or an unusual layout — tap Add a box and drag it over the first 8 digits yourself. The front and the back of the card can both carry the number; every one found is covered.
Good companions
After masking, add "For KYC only" and the date with Watermark PDF, so the copy can't be reused for something else. To hide other details, like an account number, use Redact PDF. A downloaded e-Aadhaar is password protected: open it with Unlock PDF first.
Privacy
Your Aadhaar never leaves your device. The PDF or photo is read and masked in your browser, and nothing is sent to us or anyone else.
Questions people ask
How do I mask my Aadhaar number?
Drop your Aadhaar PDF or photo here. The first 8 digits are covered automatically; check the box and press Download to save the masked copy.
Is a masked Aadhaar valid?
UIDAI issues masked Aadhaar showing only the last 4 digits, and many places accept it for identity checks. Where the full number is legally required, the place will tell you.
Can the hidden digits be recovered?
No. On photos they are replaced with black pixels; on PDFs the page is rebuilt with the box burned in, so the digits are not in the file at all.
It didn't find the number on my photo. What now?
Tap Add a box and drag it over the first 8 digits yourself. A sharper, straight photo in good light usually lets the number be found automatically.
Is my Aadhaar uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device, so your Aadhaar never leaves it.
