Getting under 20 KB — the strictest common limit

20 KB is one of the tightest limits Indian forms use, and it is almost always for a signature, a thumb impression or a small document photo, not a full portrait. Drop your image above; the target is already set to 20 KB, so usually you just press Download.

Why 20 KB still looks fine

A 20 KB JPG sounds tiny, but the images these forms want are tiny too — a signature box of around 140 × 60 pixels fits in a few KB with room to spare. Problems start when people upload a full 4,000-pixel phone photo of their signature: no amount of quality reduction makes that fit. The fix is the right pixel size first, then quality — which is exactly the order we work in. We reduce pixels to a sensible size for your target, then use the best quality that fits.

Minimum sizes matter here too

Limits like 10–20 KB have a floor as well as a ceiling, and very simple images — a signature in one pen stroke — can compress *below* the minimum and get rejected for being too small. Type the minimum under Exact size and more options and we keep the file inside the range, padding it harmlessly if needed. The image itself does not change.

If it's a signature, use the signature tool

A photo of a signature on paper carries shadows, yellow paper tones and skew that waste your 20 KB on noise. The signature maker removes the shadows, makes the paper white, crops to the ink and then hits your KB range — it produces a cleaner file at a smaller size than compressing the raw photo ever will. For exam photos with a face, use the exam photo maker instead.

Checks before you upload

Under the result you can see the exact bytes, counted both ways websites count KB (1,000 and 1,024 bytes), so a file that shows as 20 KB here will not show as 21 KB there. If you want every rule of a specific exam checked — format, pixels, KB, background — run the result through the upload checker.

Everything happens in your browser: the signature or photo never leaves your device, which matters for something as personal as your signature.

Questions people ask

Why does my signature photo refuse to go under 20 KB?

Because its pixel size is huge — phone photos are thousands of pixels wide. Set the pixel size your form asks for (or use the signature maker, which crops to the ink) and 20 KB becomes easy.

My form says 10–20 KB. What if the file is too small?

Set 10 as the minimum under more options. If the compressed file lands under 10 KB, we pad it up into the range without changing the image.

Will 20 KB be enough for a face photo?

For small photo boxes it can work, but most photo rules allow 50 KB or more. Check your form — and if it is an exam photo, the exam photo maker applies the right numbers for you.

Is my signature uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression runs in your browser on your own device. For a signature, that privacy is the whole point.
