How to get a photo under 50 KB

Choose your photo above or take one with the camera. We start straight away with the target already set to 50 KB, so in most cases you only need to press Download. The result is a normal JPG file that any website, form or app will accept.

Under the photo you can see the size before and after, and the pixel size of the new file. If the form you're filling also asks for an exact size such as 200 × 230 pixels or 3.5 × 4.5 cm, open Exact size and more options and type it in. You can use pixels, centimetres, millimetres or inches; for cm, mm and inches we use the DPI you give (200 is the most common value on Indian forms).

Why 50 KB is such a common limit

Many online application forms — banks, universities, scholarships, job portals and government services — store thousands of photos, so they cap each file. 50 KB is enough for a clear passport-style photo, but a photo straight from a phone camera is usually 2 to 5 MB, which is 40 to 100 times too big.

What we do to your photo

If a form also has a minimum size, such as 20–50 KB, type the minimum under more options. Very plain photos can come out too small; we then add harmless padding inside the file so it reaches the minimum without changing how the photo looks.

Is 50 KB the same everywhere?

Not quite. Some websites count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes and others as 1,000. To be safe, we keep your file under 50,000 bytes, so it passes both ways of counting.

Many photos at once

You can add up to 50 photos together. They all get the same settings, and you can download them in one ZIP file.

Filling a government exam form?

Exam forms often have extra rules — a white background, the face at a certain size, or a specific file name. Our exam photo maker knows these rules for exams like IBPS, UPSC and NEET, and checks every one of them for you.

Questions people ask

Will my photo look blurry at 50 KB?

For a passport-size or form photo, 50 KB is plenty and it will look sharp. Large photos are first reduced to a sensible pixel size, which keeps faces and text clear. You can see the result before you download it.

Is my photo uploaded to your server?

No. Everything happens inside your browser on your own phone or computer. Your photo is never sent anywhere, and it is cleared when you close the page or tap Clear.

My form says between 20 KB and 50 KB. What do I do?

Keep the 50 KB target, open "Exact size and more options" and enter 20 in Minimum size. The result will land inside the range.

Can I compress an iPhone (HEIC) photo?

Yes. iPhone photos are converted automatically. The first time, your browser downloads a small extra component of about 2 MB to read them.
